Industrial design helps to improve the usability and functionality of a product  it is a combination of applied art and applied science. This field of Industrial designing is developed for providing industrial services  in creating, designing ideas and specifications that will optimize the activity, value and look of products and systems for the benefit of user and manufacturer.

To be successful in Industrial design you should have/ develop:

  • Very good 2D and 3D sense
  • Logical thinking
  • Ability to analyze requirements and to devise solutions

Rapid growth in consumer expenditure and growing competition for sales have roused manufacturers to see the possibility of designing products which are not only effective and appropriate to use, but also look attractive. The designer may required to apply required domain skills to improve product appeal. 

The Product should be designed in such a way that it will serve the purpose for which they are developed but should be visually pleasing as well. Customers' needs in terms of ease,  effectiveness, security, trust and budget have to be taken care of.

  • Initiates and Creates ideas to design the form of manufactured products: Reads visual material, attends exhibition, and discuss with engineering, advertising, and sales executives to establish design concepts
  • To Check the design sketches on parameters like appearance, serviceability, production cost, method of engineering, design-function relationships, market characteristics, budget and most important is client specifications
  • Integrates findings and concepts and sketches design ideas
  • Design product packaging and graphics for advertising
  • Build simulated samples, using power and hand tools and different materials
  • Prepare illustrations
  • coordinating  with the preparation of sketches, drawing, and design specifications
  • Design products for custom applications
