An intelligence agency is a government agency responsible for the collection, analysis or exploitation of information and intelligence in support of law enforcement, national security, defense and foreign policy objectives. An intelligence officer is responsible for spying and gathering information internally and externally. The assembly and propagation of this information is known as intelligence analysis or intelligence assessment.

Scope and opportunities

  • The Investigation Bureau (IB) is primarily concerned with the collection and analysis of information; it has no legal powers to investigate
  • Jobs in the IB - Grade I and II officers work with the Investigation Bureau. Grade I include Assistant Director, Deputy Director, Joint Director, Special Director/Special Secretary. Superior posts are usually filled from State Police Service and IPS officers
  • Grade II include Security Assistant (Constable), Junior Intelligence Officer, Assistant Central Intelligence Officer, Deputy Central Intelligence Officer, Assistant Director
  • There is direct recruitment for the junior posts. Deputy Central Intelligence Officers and Assistant Directors may be appointed through deputation or by direct recruitment

Job Profile 

Intelligence Research Specialist:

  • Various security lapses and threats from within or outside are monitored, documented and tracked by research department. Necessary alerts are given to home department and defense department.

 

 

Intelligence Specialist:

  • Collects, records, analyzes, and disseminates tactical, strategic, or technical intelligence information, on the war front looks for areas of bombardment, alerts the army and navy about the actions of the neighbors, keeps updates on the terrorist activities
  • Maintains intelligence libraries, including maps, charts, documents, and other items

Current Job Scenario

In the case of CBI, RAW, IB pay scale is based on the posts. Anyhow starting salary ranges between Rs. 10,000/- to Rs. 16,000/-. For posts in the upper step of the ladder it is more. Private detectives charge on a daily basis. Depending up on the nature of the case and the size of the detective organization involved, they may charge between Rs. 1000 and Rs. 5000 per day.
