Career in Ayurveda

The word Ayurveda has originated from the two Sanskrit words, 'Ayur' meaning life and 'Veda' meaning knowledge, which collectively goes as knowledge of life. Ayurveda is one of the oldest treatments which have been originated around 600 BC in India. Ayurveda holds the rudimentary knowledge about various treatments and remedies. Ayurveda practiced by special physicians called 'Vaidyas' is known to promote positive health and natural beauty with a vision of long life.

To be successful in Ayurveda you should have/ develop:

  • Knowledge of Sanskirt
  • A caring nature
  • Self confidence

Scope and Opportunities

In this field job opportunities are prevalent; both in India and abroad. An Ayurvedic practitioner can work as medical officer/doctor at government and private Ayurvedic hospitals. One can practice personally also, and if needed can open his/her own retail shop of Ayurveda medicines. They can also find employment as supervisors in 'Panch Karma' (Ayurvedic massage) / health centers. Ayurvedic doctors are always in demand by Ayurvedic oriented industries that prepares or manufactures Ayurvedic related products, cosmetics and medicines.

  • A doctor's profession involves a lot of hard work and at the same time, it gives the satisfaction of curing patients at times even saving lives. It is a very demanding profession. To be in this profession is more a responsibility than a privilege. It is more of what you can give the community than what you can get from it.
